Your mattress never needs to be flipped or turned over. It should always have the softer layer on top. The way to check this is to ensure that the zip for the outer cover is on the lower edge or underneath. The mattress can however be rotated head to foot. This can be done after, say, three months, but then will never need to be done again. It is a good idea to periodically air the removable mattress covers in the sun.

As stated above, please do not wash the outer cover. As the care label sewn on to the outer cover states, this cover is made from a 100% GOTS certified organic cotton knit and will shrink if washed. The cover can be removed and put out in the sun to air. If it needs cleaning, it can be spot cleaned. However, the best option is to take the cover to a reputable eco dry cleaners, somewhere similar to Stannards of Subiaco, WA, who have their own website. When taking it to the dry cleaners, point out the label, explain that it is a knitted fabric and cannot be washed or it will shrink. Stannards do a particularly good job here in WA and, if you are out of WA, we are sure that there must be similarly reputable eco dry cleaners in your area.

The inner cover however can be washed, provided that it is washed on a cold wash and is line dried in the shade, not tumble dried. The foam core cannot be machine washed or treated roughly. But that is what the inner and outer cover are there for – to protect the foam core.
